Haryana Jat stir probe panel invites complaints till July 31Gurgaon, July 14 (IANS) The two-member commission set up by the Haryana government to inquire into the violence during Jat reservation stir in the state in February has extended till July 31 the time for accepting complaints, an official said on Thursday.

Up to July 12, the commission had not received even a single complaint, the commission's secretary Sanjeev Singla said but a few complainants came forward later on.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Lok Sabha member from Kurukshetra, Raj Kumar has said he has many complaints and will provide sufficient proof to the panel.

 

The commission headed by Justice S.N. Jha (retd) took charge of the inquiry on April 18 after a government notification on April 8.

Retired police officer N.C. Padhi is the second member of commission.

The commission on June 17 asked people to file their complaints within a month regarding the violence that occurred between February 18-23, but no one came forward till July 12.

At least 30 people were killed in the February violence and properties worth several hundred crores destroyed.

The panel has received a compact disc through post, which will be examined on July 17. The panel has to submit a report within six months from the date of the first meeting.

The commission has no power to take cognizance of any incident, but has to take action or conduct an inquiry only on the basis of complaints it receives.
