Shalmali, Anusha, Akasa rode bullets, composed songs for 'Angels Of Rock'

Mumbai, July 13 (IANS) Singers Shalmail Kholgade, Anusha Mani, Akasa Singh and Jasmine Sandlas rode Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles, wrote and composed songs for inspiring women, explored India as part of their television show "Angels Of Rock".

Shalmali, popular for her songs like "Pareshan", "Balam Pichkari", said, "When they approached us for the show they told us that 'you have to ride a Bullet, write songs, meet these women, are you game?' It was a push for us to do all these things, for which I wasn't confident. I had to overcome my fear to learn to ride a Bullet and we made this trip.

"We met these women who have achieved something in their city or village, so it was our little achievement. We four musicians have gone to small cities; meeting these women and composing songs is like coming out of a shell," said the singer at "Meet and Greet with Angels of Rock" event hosted by MTV.

"Angels Of Rock" will consist of 10 such inspirational stories of women. The countrywide journey of the four singers culminates at the Wagah border.

"The most exciting for us was to explore this country, go across the country, all the way from Gujarat to Punjab, and meet women from all walks of life and see the incredible work that they do and the life they lead."

"We were composing our own songs, writing them and performing them, and we were making them for the women who were inspiring us. Riding the Bullet was one of the most exciting parts of our show," Anusha Mani, famous for songs like "Gulaabo", said.

Jasmine Sandlas, who has sung "Yaar Na Miley" from "Kick" is also a part of the show.

Akasa Singh, known for songs like "Kheech Meri Photo" said, "It was the first time in my life that I wrote and composed a song myself. We usually write romantic songs, party numbers, sad numbers but here we had an inspiring story and we had to live with it and then write and compose them.

"There could not have been anything more prestigious or a matter of pride. We grew musically in this journey. We have lived like how the villagers lived, ate their food, we saw the real India. India's culture is on the next level. I can proudly say that you would not get to see this anywhere else."

The series airs on MTV from 31 July.
