Get selfie-ready with Parthiv Shah

New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) To click that perfect selfie, head to India Habitat Centre this weekend where renowned photographer Parthiv Shah will be conducting a workshop on the "art of selfies".

Titled "Self Portrait to Selfie: Redefining Image Making', the day-long workshop will be held at the Experimental Arts Gallery on Saturday under the aegis of Habitat Photosphere, a -year-long photography festival initiated by the India Habitat Centre.

"In 2013, 'selfie’ was declared Word of the Year by Oxford Dictionary. Over the past decade, the phenomenon has emerged as one of the top trends in an image crazed world, being appropriated by the common masses, celebrities and politicians alike,” said Shah.

From tips to clicking the best selfies to how technology has fast-forwarded the selfie phenomenon, the workshop will explore many aspects.

“The ‘age of selfie’, as it has come to be known, might be the result of unprecedented changes in technology and the rise of social media; but it owes tremendously to the old-age genre of self-portrait,” Shah added.

The workshop will also throw light on the journey of the selfie from self-portraiture by prolific works of 15th century painters like Rembrandt to modernists like Van Gogh and Edvard Munch.

“Contextualising the socio-economic and cultural changes over the past centuries, the interactive workshop will explore how questions of identity and self-fashioning have been transformed by the modern ways of image-making,” said Shah.

The participation fee is Rs 800 for non-members and Rs 500 for students and senior citizens.
