New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) The leader of an organised wildlife trafficking gang active in several states was arrested here amid intense drama as his family tried to free from the clutches of he police, police said on Tuesday.
Akash (33), a resident of Sadar Bazar area in central Delhi is son of notorious interstate trafficker Sansar Chand who died fighting cancer in 2004 in Jaipur. Akash's mother was also arrested earlier and was lodged in jail for about one and half a year for wildlife crimes.
"In the garb of 'Sara Electronics' in Karol Bagh, which is in the business of selling laptop of prominent company Asus through e-commerce portal Snapdeal, he was operating his interstate network of wildlife trafficking," police said.
An interstate trafficker of leopard hides, Akash is also wanted in Rajasthan.
Crime Branch had also received a request from Hathipole police station in Rajasthan's Udaipur, seeking help in apprehension of their wanted accused in a case and NBW against him had also been issued by concerned court of law.
The police team conducted mulitple raids at Sadar Thana Road, Motia Khan, Paharganj, Delhi to apprehened the poacher.
"Suddenly, a mob including family members or relatives of Akash gathered at the spot and tried to forcibly get Akash free from the custody of officials of Crime Branch," police added.
They even beat Head Constable Hamender and Constable Pankaj and pelted stones at police party. Both the police personnel sustained multiple injuries but even then, they did not let Akash go.
