No complaint filed before panel probing Jat stir in HaryanaGurgaon, July 12 (IANS) The two-member commission set up by the Haryana government to inquire into the conspiracy angle to the Jat reservation stir in the state in February has not received even a single complaint so far.

The commission headed by Justice S.N. Jha (retd) took charge on April 18 after a government notification on April 8.

Speaking to the media in his Gurgaon office, Justice Jha said public was asked through notices in newspapers on June 17 to file their complaints within a month regarding the violence that occurred between February 18 and 23.

 

He said almost a month has passed but no one had come forward with any complaint, adding there might be some communication gap.

The panel though has received a compact disc through post, which will be examined in the first meeting on July 17. The panel has to submit a report within six months from the date of the first meeting.

Besides victims, anyone having complete information regarding any incident can file their complaints along with an affidavit.

He said people may also come forward with complaints regarding the alleged Murthal gang rapes during the stir.

The commission has no power to take cognisance of any incident, but has to take action or conduct an inquiry only on the basis of received complaints.

Commission member and retired Indian Police Service officer N.C. Padhi was also present at the press conference.

At least 30 people were killed in the February violence and properties worth several hundred crores destroyed.
