Three trains cancelled, 12 diverted after derailment on Surat-Nandurbar route

Nandurbar (Maharashtra), July 11 (IANS) The derailment of four coaches of the Surat-Nandurbar passenger train near Maharashtra's Nandurbar district late Sunday night led to cancellation of three passenger trains and diversion of 12 express trains on Monday, Western Railway officials said.

No loss of life was reported when coaches five to eight of the 12-coach 69169 MEMU passenger train derailed at 11.35 p.m. on the Dhekvad-Nandurbar section due to the washing away of soil beneath the tracks by heavy rain in the region, they said.

Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Ravindra Bhakar told reporters that the stranded passengers were evacuated by a rescue team of the Western Railway and sent to their respective destinations.

About 400 metres of the tracks were washed away at different locations near Nandurbar, he said.
