Ghaziabad, July 11 (IANS) A massive tree plantation drive was launched here on Monday with all the government agencies including Municipal Corporation, Forest Department, Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and the district administration participating.
Divisional Forest Officer V.P. Singh said that it is part of the start government's "Green UP Clean UP" campaign, which aims at planting 5 crore trees, and the total tree plantation here has touched the figure of about a lakh including efforts of all the government agencies.
Mayor Ashu Verma said that the municipal corporation planted about 10,000 trees in Sai Upvan and its surrounding areas, while Singh claimed that the forest department alone planted 60,000 trees in Loni, Hindon Cut canal, Madhuban Bapudham and Raj Nagar and Kavi Nagar areas.
GDA horticulture officer S.P. Sishodia said that the authority planted 32,250 trees in Indirapuram, city park in Madhuban Bapudham and the city forest in Karhera.
Ghaziabad citizens participated in the plantation along with the officials.
