Bremen sign defender Moisander from Sampdoria

Berlin, July 10 (IANS) Werder Bremen are continuing the reinforcement of their team with the signing of experienced defender Niklas Moisander from Italian football club Sampdoria, the Bundesliga side confirmed on Sunday.

The Finland international agreed with Bremen on a three-year deal to stay with the "Green-Whites" until June 2019, reports Xinhua.

"Niklas fits into our requirement profile. He has the necessary experience, as he was the captain of the Finnish national team and Ajax Amsterdam," Bremen's sporting director Frank Baumann said.

"In addition, he brings all the prerequisites to become a leader. His quality and routine will enrich our defence."

The 30-year-old centre-back played three years for Ajax before he joined Sampdoria in 2015 to make 22 outings.

"I can not describe how happy I am. Bremen is a great club. I hope to become a key player soon to make my contribution to the team," the new arrival told the club's official homepage.

Bremen encounter defending champions Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga opener on August 26.
