Jinan (China), July 9 (IANS) Chinese football club Shandong Luneng announced the signing of Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse from English outfit Newcastle United on Saturday.
The 31-year-old played in several countries like France, Germany and Britain. Cisse joined Newcastle United in January 2012 from SC Freiburg. He played for the English side Newcastle for four-and-a-half years before moving to China, reports Xinhua.
Luneng currently rank in the relegation zone, and the team scored seven goals but conceded 16 goals in 10 recent matches.
Cisse scored 44 goals in 131 appearances for the Magpies. He also holds the record of most goals scored by an African player in a single Bundesliga campaign in the 2010/11 season, when he scored 22 for SC Freiburg. And this may explain why Luneng coach Magath from Germany signed Cisse.
