Gurgaon, July 6 (IANS) Newly-appointed Minister of State for Planning (Independent Charge) Rao Inderjit Singh on Wednesday said his new responsibility will give him chance to work directly for public welfare.
Subhash Ramrao Bhamre, an oncologist and first-time lawmaker from Maharashtra, replaced Singh as the Minister of State for Defence in Tuesday's reshuffle of the Union Cabinet.
Singh, who is yet to take charge of the new assignment, said his earlier portfolio was important and high-profile but was cut off from the masses.
The Bharatiya Janata Party's Gurgaon parliamentarian said his ministry will now raise more funds from the National Capital Region Board for better and faster development of NCR region falling in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The minister said his ministry will ensure that Gurgaon gets the status of 'Smart City'.
Rao Inderjit Singh has additional charge of Urban Development Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation portfolios as Minister of State.
