No one has any reason to be unhappy with reshuffle: Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhi, July 6 (IANS) New Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday said "no one" has any reason to be unhappy with the latest reshuffle carried out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"No one has any reason to be unhappy. The exercise has been carried out under the prerogative powers of the Prime Minister," Naidu told reporters soon after taking charge of the ministry.

Naidu, who is also Urban Development Minister, said he is happy to take the charge of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, a portfolio shed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Naidu added that his focus will be to convey to the media and the people about government's good works vis-a-vis developments and uplift of people's living condition in rural areas.

In a major shake up to his ministry, Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday dropped five Ministers of State while he inducted 19 new ones and elevated Minister of State Prakash Javadekar into the cabinet rank.

In the rejig, Naidu was divested of the Parliamentary Affairs portfolio.

Prime Minister also removed Smriti Irani from the Human Resource Development Ministry and gave her the responsibility of the low-profile Textiles Ministry.

While Javadekar was made the new HRD minister, D.V. Sadananda Gowda of Karnataka was also removed from the Law Ministry.

BJP sources said Naidu has been categorically asked to go pro-active in bringing in changes in media perception about the Modi government.

Naidu said, "First two years to be Parliamentary Affairs Minister was a challenging assignment" and hoped that things would be more smooth now.

The Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister H.N. Ananth Kumar has been given charge of Parliamentary Affairs in the reshuffle.
