New Delhi, July 6 (IANS) Jayant Sinha on Wednesday assumed office as the Minister of State for Civil Aviation.
Sinha formerly held the post of Union Minister of State for Finance. He was also member of the Parliament's Committee on Subordinate Legislation and the Standing Committee on Finance from September 1 2014 to November 9, 2014.
Sinha was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Hazaribagh constituency in Jharkhand in 2014. He took over the current portfolio from fellow minister Mahesh Sharma.
Sinha will work under the Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju. The appointment comes at a time when the government has recently unveiled the draft regional connectivity scheme (RCS) with the intent to provide air connectivity to unserved and remote routes.
The RCS is a key component of the recently passed National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP), whose main objective is to "enhance regional connectivity through fiscal support and infrastructure development."
