Mumbai, July 4 (IANS) Ranbir Kapoor is creating awareness about setting up a school for girls in Jharkhand with YUWA -- a social development platform for girls -- through a five-part video series. The actor says he is inspired by their never-dying spirit of turning failure into success.
He said these bunch of football players from a little Jharkhand village "are some extraordinary girls. These are girls with goals".
Ranbir along with global PC and smartphone maker Lenovo is creating awareness about setting up a school for YUWA girls. These girls are from Hutup, a remote village in Jharkhand. YUWA is looking to change mindset on pressing issues through violence against women by empowering them to speak up and find their confidence through sports.
The actor says that he felt compelled to meet the girls after hearing their story.
The first video became live on June 30.
"Recently I heard this story of a young bunch of players who have turned failure into success, learning from their losses and adapting their game every day. I knew I had to find some way or the other to meet this team from a little village in Jharkhand who are conquering the world of football. They are the awesome, inspiring, beautiful girls of YUWA," Ranbir said in a statement.
Supported by Lenovo and YUWA, an organisation that uses sports as a platform for social development, the girls from Hutup created history in 2014 when they returned home as the second runners up in the Under-14 Gasteiz Cup in 2014 in Spain. Ranbir is also cheering the YUWA girls who are competing at the ongoing Donosti Cup in Spain.
The "Barfi!" star added: "The YUWA girls are an inspiration for every girl in India to take control of their destiny. They are not afraid to fail. Because failure is just a way forward to success."
Ranbir has also started the #KickForABrick campaign urging communities and individuals to work towards YUWA teams bigger dream.
With every kick contributed and shared on social media, the YUWA girls get closer to their dream of building a school in Hutup.
