Another Hindu priest attacked in Bangladesh

Dhaka, July 2 (IANS) Unidentified assailants hacked a Hindu priest with sharp weapons on Saturday leaving him severely injured in Bangladesh's Satkhira district, a day after the killing of a Hindu priest in Jhenidah district and a Buddhist man in Bandarban.

Bhabasindhu Bor, priest of the local Sree Sree Radha Govinda temple in Brahmarajpur village of Satkhira Sadar Upazila, is undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital in critical condition, the Daily Star quoted a police official as saying.

At 3.30 a.m., seven to eight assailants knocked at the door of the priest's house. When the victim opened the door thinking it was the night guard, they stormed into the house and attacked him.

Hearing the screams of the victim and his family members, neighbours rushed to the spot.

The assailants entered the temple after they tied up two local security guards posted in the area, bdnews24.com reported.

"The attackers left thinking Bhabashindu was dead. Locals, alerted by the two guards, rushed him to the hospital in critical condition," the police official said.

The incident occurred while a popular cafe in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka was being attacked by seven Islamic State gunmen.
