We want to return to greatness: Milan coach Montella

Milan, July 1 (IANS) AC Milan's new head coach Vincenzo Montella has said that the Italian football club must return to the winners' pedestal, not only in Italy, but in Europe as well, while there is much to do to achieve this objective.

Milan, the most successful club in European history after Real Madrid, have not played in UEFA Champions League in the last two years.

Milan finished seventh in the Serie A this season, with 15 wins and 11 losses from 38 games. They won their last Serie A title in the 2010-11 season.

"We all need to sit down, this week we'll start working. Our objective is to return to greatness in Italy and in Europe," Efe quoted Montella as saying in an interview broadcast on Thursday by Sport Mediaset.

"It's a tough job but I'm convinced we'll make it. The difference is made by the players, so we need to get their performances to improve," the 42-year-old former Italy striker added.

The former coach of Catania, Fiorentina and Sampdoria, noted: "As of tomorrow I'll officially be Milan's Coach. When there's a big change, there's always a lot of emotion going with it."
