Bengaluru, July 1 (IANS) Leading IT company Mphasis on Friday announced Mphasis Chair for Digital Accessibility and Inclusion in partnership with Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B), aimed at universal accessibility for persons with disabilities (PwD).

The newly-created chair will focus on building technology to help PwD to overcome digital accessibility barriers, promoting research around disability accessibility solutions, publishing best practices and structuring a roadmap for organisational policy makers among others.

"World of digital offers us with a tremendous opportunity for inclusion of PwD... This partnership with IIMB is a big milestone for us to collectively make a difference. I welcome all enterprises to join hands," said Mphasis Chief Executive Ganesh Ayyar.

Citing World Health Organisation (WHO) and World Bank data, Mphasis said 15 per cent of the world's population has a disability which translates to one in seven people.

Other areas of focus for the Mphasis Chair for Digital Accessibility of PwD include studies and publication of industry trends and engagement with Mphasis to aid inclusion of employees with disabilities among others.

"We all have different degrees of abilities and different types of abilities. So, when we refer to this group called persons with disabilities, we are not looking at some 'other'; we are looking at us," said the newly named chair Mukta Kulakarni.
