Jharkhand CM launches plantation drive

Ranchi, July 1 (IANS) Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Friday launched a month-long plantation drive in Ramgarh district of the state.

The government targets to plant 2.5 crore saplings across the state under the drive, which was launched at Jainagar village, around 55 km from state capital Ranchi.

Speaking on the occasion, Raghubar Das said: "Jharkhand will ensure development in tune with environment. Along with industrial development, we have to maintain the ecological balance as well."

"Plants maintain the ecological balance and underground water. In the Indian culture, trees are connected with spiritualism. We have to hand over to the coming generations a green and clean Jharkhand," he added.

Das said that under the Jan Van scheme, the state government was giving subsidies for tree plantation on 'rayat' land.

He also appealed to the people to adopt water conservation measures.
