Painted stages of a woman's life

New Delhi, June 29 (IANS) Spontaneously painted women-centric expressions that present various stages in a woman's life can be viewed alongside the relationship of nature with its varied moods at an exhibition here July 2-7.

The exhibition, titled "Aham", by Delhi-based artist Sunayana Malhotra, will be on at Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre here.

The artist describes one of her works as the female form that has not been portrayed to please any male voyeuristic attitude or as the media portrays it but as a real woman whose body tells of her journey from puberty.

"Through this exhibition, I have tried to express various stages in a women's life through my paintings. A painting depicts a woman whose body tells of her journey from puberty," Malhotra told IANS.

"The stages are from the motherhood to her breast feeding days to menopause. Even though she camouflages herself, a woman looks at her own self with disgust at the changes she undergoes," she explained.

"The woman also balances the world she creates with her lover, spouse, children and the outside world," she added.
