Gurgaon, June 29 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday adopted five Haryana villages to develop into "smart villages". This scheme will be launched by the President himself on July 2 along with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at Rashtrapati Bhavan, an official said on Wednesday.
The function will be attended by representatives from Neeti Ayog, Union Ministry for Rural Development, Agriculture and other aligned departments.
A team from Rashtrapati Bhavan Secretariat visited five villages, adopted by President Mukherjee to develop them into "smart villages", and had a brief meeting with Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner T. L. Satyaprakash on Tuesday.
In the meeting it was announced that the President was going to launch the scheme to develop these five villages -- Alipur, Daula, Harchandpur and Tajnagar in Gurgaon district and Rozka Meo of Mewat district.
The team will also be attending the meetings of the gram sabhas in these villages. A five-day training course for villagers on general issues like agriculture, irrigation and sanitation would also be organised in each of these villages.
