Heavy rains raise water levels in Karnataka dams

Bengaluru, June 29 (IANS) Incessant rains since Sunday have raised water levels in dams and reservoirs across Karnataka, an official said on Wednesday.

"Water levels in reservoirs and dams in coastal, south interior areas and Malnad region have been steadily rising following inflows from heavy rains across the state," said an official of the Karnataka state natural disaster monitoring centre.

With the monsoon gathering momentum, major rivers including the Kali, Tunga and Bhadra have filled reservoirs such as Linganamakki, Supa, Varahi, Harangi, and Hemavathi in coastal and central parts and dams such as KRS and Kabini across Cauvery and Ghataprabha, Malaprabha and Almatti on Krishna.

According to the Met office, heavy rains were reported in many parts of the coastal areas and south and north interior parts of the state during the last 24 hours.

Forecast for Bengaluru and its neighbourhood is cloudy sky, with spells of rains while maximum and minimum temperatures will remain at 25 degrees and 20 degrees Celsius.
