Seville (Spain), June 28 (IANS) Spanish club Sevilla FC on Tuesday roped in former Chile chief coach Jorge Sampaoli for the next two football seasons.
Jorge Sampaoli has signed as new coach of Sevilla FC for the next two seasons. Argentine coach starts, thus, his first venture into Europe after triumphing in South America and has become one of the coaches of reference in the international footballing concert, said a statement on the clubs website.
I hope I can fulfill the expectations that the fans has from the team and me, Sampaoli said.
Sampaoli started as a player in the lower echelons of Newell's Old Boys, but a serious injury to tibia and fibula forced him to quit football at age 19.
The 56-year-old then turned to coaching and after directing several sets of the lower ranked teams in Argentina, he jumped to Juan Aurich of Peru in 2002.
He also managed the Chile national team from 2012 to 2016, the highlight being the 2015 Copa America triumph.
