New Delhi, June 27 (IANS) Two drunk car-borne youths allegedly beat up a Delhi traffic police head constable and a home guard for stopping their vehicle being driven dangerously and at very high speed and seeking to see their driving licence and other documents, police said on Monday. One of the attackers has been arrested.
Head Constable Satveer, 45, and Home Guard Hoti Lal, 30, were assaulted in west Delhi's Madhuban Chowk close to midnight on Saturday.
Police said that one of the attackers - Hemant, 19 -- was arrested from the spot while his associate Nitin, 20, managed to escape and is still on the run. "The car they were travelling in has also been impounded from the spot."
A police officer said that a juvenile was also travelling in the car along with the attackers but he was allowed to go because of his innocence.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikramjit Singh said that the whole incident occurred after Head Constable Satveer chased the car being driven dangerously.
"The attackers were driving a Swift Dzire car against the flow of traffic. Satveer and Home Guard Hoti Lal chased the car for a few kilometre on a motorcycle and stopped it. Hemant (who was on the driving seat) and Nitin attacked Satveer when he asked to see their driving licence and other documents of the car," Singh told IANS.
The officer said that the accused also snatched Satveer's helmet and hit him his head.
"They also attacked Hoti Lal when he intervened. At the time of the incident, both the accused were drunk. We have recovered two beer bottles from the car they were travelling in," the officer said.
Another officer, on condition of anonymity, told IANS that Hemant, a resident of Budh Vihar in west Delhi, is a son of a Delhi Police head constable. "Hemant works as a driver and used to drive car on rent. The car he was travelling in belongs to a resident of Laxmi Nagar (ineast Delhi)."
Nitin, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, resides in Budh Vihar on rented accommodation with his brother -- a gym instructor.
The attackers have been booked under Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the Indian Penal Code at Rohini North police station in west Delhi.
