New Delhi, June 27 (IANS) Metropolitan Magistrate Bhavna Kalia on Monday dismissed the bail plea of AAP legislator Dinesh Mohaniya in a sexual harassment case and remanded him to judicial custody till July 11.
Court sources said that during the in-camera court proceedings, Delhi Police opposed the Aam Aadmi Party leader's plea saying he could try to influence the probe if he was released on bail.
In his plea, Mohaniya said he is a sitting MLA and will not flee from justice. He also said that he had been falsely implicated.
Mohaniya, legislator from Sangam Vihar in south Delhi, was arrested on Saturday on the charge of "sexual harassment" following a complaint filed by a woman who visited his office-cum-residence with others to complain about irregular water supply.
The legislator was arrested while addressing a press conference at his residence.
Delhi Police has booked him on charges of misbehaviour, manhandling and touching a woman inappropriately.
On Friday, a case was registered against Mohaniya, Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, on charge of slapping a 60-year-old man in Tughlakabad area of south Delhi.
