Berlin, June 26 (IANS) Schalke have completed the transfer of Swiss striker Breel Embolo in a five-year deal, the German football club confirmed on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Swiss striker talent, who played at the EURO 2016 in France, joins Bundesliga side Schalke from FC Basel with immediate effect after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal, which will keep him in Gelsenkirchen until June 2021. However, both sides agreed to keep silence over further contract details, reports Xinhua.
"With Breel Embolo we have snapped up a highly talented and international experienced striker who has been coveted by many European top flight clubs," Schalke's Sporting Director Christian Heidel said.
Emobolo represented Switzerland at UEFA Euro 2016 before Poland eliminated them on penalties in the last sixteen. Schalke's new arrival scored one goal in 14 international outings since his senior debut in March 2015.
In addition, the striker provided 29 goals and 14 assists in overall 86 appearances for Swiss top-flight club FC Basel, since his first-team debut in March 2014.
Schalke completed the Bundesliga season 2015-2016 on the fifth position of the standings to ensure a berth in the UEFA Europa League.
