Israeli pride parade killer gets life sentence

Jerusalem, June 26 (IANS) An Israeli court on Sunday gave life imprisonment to an ultra-Orthodox Jew for murdering a girl and attempting to murder five others during a 2015 Jerusalem gay pride parade.

The court also ordered Yishai Schlissel, 39, to pay damages amounting to 2,064,000 shekels (about $531,060) to his victims, Xinhua news agency reported.

On July 30, 2015, Schlissel was arrested for stabbing six persons. One of the victims, Shira Banki, 16, died of her injuries a few days later.

The attack came only three weeks after he was released from prison, where he served a 10-year sentence for carrying out a similar stabbing attack in the 2005 Jerusalem pride parade. Three people were injured in the attack.
