Kabul, June 25 (IANS) The US military in Afghanistan has launched strikes against the Taliban militants after US President Barack Obama's new order earlier this month.
The new air strikes were carried out in the southern parts of Afghanistan following the approval of the new broader role for the US military in the country, Khaama Press cited the Pentagon as saying.
Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said the strikes hit the intended target but declined to provide further details, citing "operational security".
Obama approved broader role for the US military to assist the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) to fight the Taliban led insurgency.
