Tehran, June 25 (IANS) Relations between Iran and Britain will not change after the latter voted to leave the European Union, Iran's Foreign Ministry has said.
Iran respects the decision of British people and deems it consistent with the will of the majority of Britons in determining their own foreign relations, Xinhua news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.
"Iran has always sought expansion of relations with the European countries based on mutual respect and non-interference in one another's internal affairs, and Britain's exit from the EU will not cause any changes in Iran's policy," it said.
Britain's "Leave" camp won the historic referendum on Thursday by obtaining nearly 52 per cent of the ballots, pulling the country out of the 28-nation bloc after it joined the EU in January 1973.
