Ahmedabad, June 24 (IANS) Gujarat Director General of Police P.P. Pandey on Friday constituted a three-member team, including two women IPS officers, to assist Vadodara police in investigating allegations of rape and lewd behaviour against founder chairman of Parul University Jayesh Patel.
The team, comprising Mahisagar SP N.K. Amin and two women police officers -- CID (Crime) Superintendent of Police Sujata Majumdar and SDPO Bhavna Patel, left for Waghodia in Vadodara where the FIR with allegations of rape against Patel was lodged by a second year nursing student.
The state government has viewed the allegations seriously and instructed the DGP to personally monitor the investigations in the case.
Jayesh Patel, a local BJP leader in Vadodara who was suspended from the party after this incident, was arrested on Wednesday night by the Local Crime Branch of Vadodara police from near Anand after he remained in hiding for four days.
Police sources said Patel's medical examination was completed in Waghodia on Thursday.
He was also taken to Parul University for investigation. Patel had resigned as the president of the university.
Patel had twice contested unsuccessfully for the Waghodia assembly seat on a Congress ticket and later switched over to BJP which suspended him shortly after the incident.
