Mumbai, June 24 (IANS) The third edition of Colours of North East, with an aim to promote business and tourism in the region, will be held here on June 30.

With support from various northeastern states, Taj Group of Hotels and co-organised by Ministry of DoNER, the initiative is driven by the socio-cultural trust of northeast Trend MMS as a part of the North East Festival initiative.

The morning session of the event titled Make in North East is aimed at promoting the region as a viable investment destination. The eight state governments of the northeeast would present and interact with industrialists and corporates like Godrej, Taj Group of Hotels and Hindustan Unilever would share their experience of investing in the region.

In the evening, Colours of North East will give a presentation of the northeastern culture.

The evening will celebrate the soulful sounds of the region, featuring Mangka of Laihui Ensemble from Imphal and Rida and The Musical Folks from Meghalaya. There will also be a medley of Bihu by Bihu Samrat Ranjit Gogoi and a performance by violinist Sunita Khaund.

The evening will also see a colourful fashion presentation by the region's designers Asa Kazingmei, Nabam Aka and Arita Kashyap.

Delicious northeastern cuisines, curated by Chef Karen Yepthomi of Dzukou Tribal Kitchen, Chefs of IORA Resort, Assam and a few others, will be available as well.

An exhibition displaying northeastern handloom and handicraft products will be showcased.

A policy for promoting film shoots in the northeast will also be discussed.

Shyamkanu Mahanta, Chief Organiser of Colours of North East, believes that this initiative would bring investment to the region.

Ranjit Barthakur, Chairman, Organising Committee, said in a statement: “The initiative is expected to bring investment to the northeast as lots of corporates have already shown interest in participating and to explore northeast as a destination, especially to take advantage of its proximity to South East Asia”.
