Haryana offers research chairs for corporate, industrial houses

Chandigarh, June 24 (IANS) The Haryana government on Friday announced that it will frame a new policy for setting up of research chairs in various universities of the state to commemorate the memory of prominent personalities and invited corporate and industrial houses for the purpose.

"As per the new policy, big industrial and corporate houses or any other institution who intend to get a chair instituted in any university of the state in the name of any prominent personality would have to pay a specified amount to be fixed by the state government," a state government spokesman said here.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the higher education department chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The Chief Minister said that the research chairs would prove to be beneficial when extensive research is carried out on the themes decided by the respective institutions.

The meeting also approved a Sanskrit University and various new government colleges in the state.

The Chief Minister also directed to explore the possibilities for setting up a martial art college in the state having training facilities of all combative sports like judo, taekwondo, karate, kick-boxing and fencing.

"There are very few colleges of martial arts around the world and we intend that such college be set up in Haryana," he said.
