New Delhi, June 24 (IANS) The capital's power distribution utility, BSES, on Friday said it was gearing up for the monsoon season through preventive maintenance of equipment, and advised customers on simple precautions to reduce chances of electricity related mishaps that usually go up during the rains.
BSES is undertaking works to minimise the accumulation of moisture in the grids and panels, the company said in a release here.
These include raising the foundation height of transformers in low-lying areas to safe levels, cleaning rooftops and trenches to avoid waterlogging, and pruning of trees, wherever feasible, to prevent entangling with overhead BSES cables.
"We request people to stay away from an electric pole or an electric installation, if it is surrounded by water," the statement said.
"We also urge all to alert BSES in case somebody comes across fallen trees/branches on electricity wires due to rain or strong winds," it added.
Explaining that power theft by hooking into an electricity system poses a serious safety hazard, BSES urged Delhi citizens to report, as well as convince people not to illegally hook on to mainlines or electrical equipment on road sides.
Apart from the 24x7 call centre, consumers can reach BSES through its emergency numbers for BRPL at 1800-10-39707 and BYPL at 41999808, the statement added.
