Ghaziabad administration flags illegal truck parking in Kaushambi area

Ghaziabad, June 23 (IANS) Illegal parking of trucks in Kaushambi residential area here has created a big nuisance and must be stopped, the Ghaziabad administration has admitted.

In a letter to the district magistrate, a copy of which is in possession of the correspondent, Additional District Magistrate Preetie Jaiswal has sought the cancellation of registration of heavy motor vehicles which are being illegally parked in the service lane of the prestigious Kaushambi residential locality in violation of National Green Tribunal orders.

The officer also mentioned that the local residents had filed a complaint before the green court and the Allahabad High Court over illegal parking and poor civic amenities, and both the court and the tribunal had ordered that the area be cleaned.

In the letter to the district magistrate on Wednesday, Jaiswal said that during her visit to the area, she found the condition very miserable, with over 100 trucks found parked in the service lane of Kaushambi, alongside Pacific Mall and in all the side lanes of site IV industrial area.

Due to the parking of heavy vehicles the area has become prone to anti-social elements, while vendors also come to the area, creating a further mess.

During the physical survey, it was found that heavy trucks were found parked in the service lanes for the convenience of drivers who could be summoned any time from Bhushan Steel Ltd to lift a consignment. This illegal parking was done with the connivance of the truck owners to save fuel.

"If trucks are sent from the official company site, the fuel cost will increase so for the frequent call, the drivers have located a safe passage near Kaushambi. They pay Rs 100 per day to a municipal contractor", the ADM City said in her letter to the district magistrate, adding the truck drivers even showed her a receipt from the contractor.

Jaiswal recommended that the transport authority concerned be approached to cancel the registration of the trucks, and the municipal corporation be told to curb such illegal practices.

"It is mandatory for the truck owner to keep a private parking lot for his vehicle. He cannot take the excuse of insufficient parking lots in the city," added the ADM City in her letter.
