New Delhi, June 23 (IANS) In an unprecedented move, the Delhi assembly's Petition Committee will summon before it Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung and Delhi Anti-Corruption Bureau chief M.K. Meena for "no action" on the FIRs against former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and other "wrongdoers" in various scams.
"It was decided at a meeting of the Petition Committee today (Thursday) that it will summon Jung and Meena in connection with no action on the FIRs against former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit," Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla told reporters here.
She added: "Legal opinion will also be sought over the matter from the government's standing counsel before sending summons to the LG and the ACB chief."
Birla -- an Aam aadmi Party legislator from Mangolpuri -- is the chairperson of the Delhi assembly's nine-member Petition Committee.
The AAP government had during its first 49-day stint in office in 2013-14 filed four FIRs against the alleged "wrongdoers" from the Dikshit government.
The AAP on Wednesday urged Lt. Governor Jung to direct Meena to make them both (Jung and Meena) co-accused in the FIRs against "wrongdoers" of the previous Delhi government. The AAP had accused Jung of "protecting" Dikshit in the four FIRs through his inaction.
Twelve AAP legislators went to Raj Niwas -- the Lt. Governor's official residence -- on Wednesday to meet him over the issue. They later claimed that Jung "refused" to meet them.
The Delhi ACB on the complaint of Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Vijender Gupta on Monday registered a case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for "causing delay in the probe and not cancelling the contract for water tankers".
The AAP government in June 2015 constituted a five-member fact-finding committee to probe the alleged irregularities in hiring some 385 stainless steel water tankers by the Delhi Jal Board in 2012 during Dikshit's tenure.
Its report submitted to Kejriwal in August 2015 highlighted an alleged corruption of Rs 400 crore in the process of awarding tenders for hiring water tankers, and recommended FIR against Dikshit and a further probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ACB.
