New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday accused the Narendra Modi-led Central government of "shielding" BJP MP Maheish Girri who, he alleged, played a role in the murder of a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) officer.
"He should be arrested and interrogated by Modi police in M.M. Khan murder case. Modi police shielding him," Kejriwal tweeted on Monday.
Khan, an estate officer with NDMC, was shot dead here on May 16, a day before he was expected to pass an order on the terms of the lease of The Connaught, a four-star hotel.
The hotel's owner, Ramesh Kakkar, was arrested along with six others for the murder of Khan.
Kejriwal has been saying Girri and NDMC Vice Chairman Karan Singh Tanwar, who also belongs to the BJP, played a suspicious role in the murder of Khan, which has not been investigated.
The chief minister also accused Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung of "shielding" Girri and Tanwar on behalf of the BJP-led central government.
Both Girri and Kanwar have denied the allegations.
The Delhi Police has reportedly said they have not come across any evidence against Girri and Kanwar in the probe into the murder.
Girri, who represents East Delhi in the Lok Sabha, has dared Kejriwal to a public debate over the allegations and asked him to produce evidence to back the charges.
The MP has been sitting on a hunger strike outside Kejriwal's residence since Sunday.
