Kolkata, June 18 (IANS) Accusing the Narendra Modi government of using agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation to control political opponents and a section of the media, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said the country was being "sold" in the name of 'Make in India'.
"A large section of the media opposes us. Being mortally afraid of the CBI, a section of the media is backing the BJP,' Banerjee told Trinamool Congress activists at a party workshop here.
"They (the BJP) are using the ED and the CBI to control all opposition parties," she said.
Attacking the BJP, she said: "The party in power is only making big speeches. They are talking of Make in India, and selling off the country. You must first love your country, then think about abroad."
Referring to the Jan Dhan Yojana, she said: "This is only a matter of publicity. People are opening bank accounts under our Kanyashree project. And they are saying so many bank accounts are being opened under the Jan Dhan Yojana scheme."
"We are ensuring bank accounts are being opened for 100 days' work. But he says his government is doing it," she said, in an indirect reference to Prime Minister Modi.
"They then tom tom their 'successes' on Twitter, Facebook," she said.
Ridiculing Congress and the CPI-M, she said the two parties created pandemonium in the state assembly on escalating prices of essentials, but kept silent in Delhi. "Go, and protest in Delhi. You have your offices there."
