Bengal rejected politics of slander: Governor

Kolkata, June 17 (IANS) The West Bengal electorate preferred good governance and sustained development by rejecting the politics of slander and vindictiveness, Governor K.N. Tripathi said on Friday.

Addressing members of the newly elected assembly, Tripathi said the state government was determined to honour the decisive mandate by carrying out all-round development and implement its pro-people policies.

"My government is fully committed to shoulder the responsibility of fulfilling the aspirations of the people by ushering in a new dawn of economic prosperity with industry, services sector and agriculture growing rapidly," he said.

"The final outcome of the elections amply demonstrated that the preference of the electorate was clearly in favour of good governance and sustained development. People have outrightly rejected the politics of slander and vindictiveness in no uncertain terms," he said.

The governor said the state government was determined to reinforce the process of all-inclusive development to carry on the overall satisfactory performance of the last five years.
