Congress,Left demand assembly discussion on fuel price hike

Kolkata, June 16 (IANS) West Bengal's opposition Congress and the Left Front on Thursday demanded a discussion on fuel price hike and rise in prices of essential commodities during the budget session of the assembly which begins on Friday.

Addressing media persons after an all party meeting, Leader of Opposition Abdul Mannan questioned the ruling Trinamool Congress' inclination for such a discussion.

"The opposition is keen on having a discussion on increase of prices of petroleum products and essential commodities; however the government is not inclined to it.

"The Trinamool does not want anything which can cause embarrassment to the BJP," said Mannan.

The Congress leader, however, expressed faith in Speaker Biman Banerjee and said the opposition will take a stand depending on what happens in the Business Advisory Committee meeting on June 22.

Leader of Left Front legislature party Sujan Chakraborty said a discussion on price rise is essential in the interest of people and accused the Trinamool of not paying heed to the opposition's demands.
