Mahatma’s life story to come out in comic form

Ahmedabad, June 14 (IANS) The Navjivan Trust, the Ahmedabad-based publishing house founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1929, is planning to bring out his life story in a comic form.

"It would be similar to Amar Chitra Katha. This is meant for young adults and for those looking for something very easy, light-hearted read," said Apurva Ashar, digital and print publishing consultant with the trust.

"Unlike in other comics where dialogues are written by others, our version would carry the words of Bapu himself and so would be authentic."

The trust, which has published over 800 titles in English, Gujarati, Hindi and other languages, seeks to bring in Bapu’s comic book in Gujarati and English.

“We are hoping to launch it by the coming birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. The Hindi version may get a bit delayed but we are hopeful of releasing the Gujarati and English versions nationally on that day,” Ashar added.

The Trust has been working on the project for almost a year now.

Ashar said the pictures, drawing and storyline were in place, with authentication by a panel of experts associated with Navjivan Trust being carried out.
