Kolkata, June 14 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced that Jhargram, Kalimpong and Asansol will be given the status of new districts.
"Our cabinet has approved that, in the first phase, Jhargram, Kalimpong and Asansol will be given new district status.
"For creating new districts, we need to take permission from the courts. Once we get the permission, all official formalities will be taken care of," she said.
Banerjee added that in all three places, several administrative structures have already been installed.
Jhargram, Asansol and Kalimpong presently are parts of West Midnapore, Burdwan and Darjeeling districts respectively.
