Panaji, June 14 (IANS) Accusing Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar of retracting on his promise of "zero tolerance to corruption", the AAP on Tuesday threatened to picket his official residence unless he came clean on his brother-in-law's reinstatement.
In a letter to Parsekar, Goa Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) media head Rupesh Shinkre has given him seven days to come clean on the reinstatement of his brother-in-law Dilip, alias Ghanshyam Malvankar, as a Field Officer of Goa Industrial Development Corporation.
Parsekar, however, denied any interference in the case, adding that the reinstatement was as per government rules.
In August last year, Malvankar was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on charge of accepting Rs 1 lakh as bribe to facilitate allocation of an industrial plot at Tuem village, 35 km from Panaji.
"We are giving you seven days to explain why your brother-in-law Ghanshyam Malvankar has not faced any consequences for corruption, failing which be prepared to face the consequences of your actions," Shinkre said.
Malvankar was reinstated at the corporation's head office in Panaji last week.
The AAP also accused Parsekar of pressurising the ACB and transferring key officials linked to the Malvankar case.
"On October 30, 2015, you transferred Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo, one of the officials involved in the raid on your brother-in-law, out of the ACB. SP Bosco George, who supervised the operation against your brother-in law, was also shunted out of the ACB a few weeks later," the AAP leader said in the letter.
Addressing a press conference late on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said: "Just because he is my brother-in-law, can he be sent home?"
He said Malvankar's reinstatement was as per government rules, adding that the officials was not his "blood relative".
