Shimla, June 14 (IANS) Doordarshan's regional channel in Shimla will soon broadcast programmes round-the-clock for the benefit of people settled in rural and inaccessible areas of the hill state, a senior official said on Tuesday.
"We will soon launch our round-the-clock channel to enable the state's people get connected through our programmes," Doordarshan Deputy Director General Om Gouri Dutt Sharma said in a statement here.
Doordarshan's Shimla station, started in 1995, has been adjudged one of the highest revenue-earning DD regional centres in the country in the past fiscal.
Sharma said the 24-hour channel will cover issues related to farmers, different occupational groups settled in rural areas, women and government programmes and policies.
"This endeavour will also generate employment for local artistes, writers and journalists," she said.
Currently, Shimla Doordarshan is put on the DD network for around four hours when DD National goes off the national network.
