Woman held for filing fake rape case

New Delhi, June 13 (IANS) A 21-year-old woman was arrested on Monday for filing a fake abduction-cum-sexual assault case against three men in Delhi last week, police said.

Investigators said the woman, a resident of Jagatpuri in east Delhi, had demanded Rs 10 lakh extortion money from the three persons to withdraw her rape complaint against them.

Police have seized Rs 9.5 lakh from her possession.

The woman had on Saturday filed a case against the three persons at a south Delhi police station alleging that they abducted her in a car and sexually assaulted her.

In her complaint, the woman mentioned that she had gone to an eatery in Nizamuddin area around 3 a.m. on Saturday where the three persons approached her and asked her to come along with them in a car.

She had also alleged that the persons forcibly dragged her inside the car when she refused to go with them and raped her in the moving vehicle before dropping her near Indraprastha Park in south Delhi.

The police registered a case under sections 365 (abduction) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mandeep Singh Randhawa said that she changed her statement before a court official during the proceedings of the case.

"After further investigation, it was found that she was trying to extort money from the three persons against whom she had filed a fake tape case," the officer said.

Another officer said that she had earlier extorted another person in east Delhi in a similar manner.
