Mumbai, June 13 (IANS) Honouring the LGBTI community, 'Pride Month' and remembering the victims of the Sunday shooting in Orlando, the United States Consulate here on Monday lit up its building's facade in the rainbow colours of the Pride flag.
Since assuming office, President Barack Obama has issued a presidential proclamation every year to declare June as LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) 'Pride Month'.
In this year's proclamation, the President urged "the people of the United States to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists, and to celebrate the great diversity of the American people".
During the Pride Month, in the United States and around the world at all its embassies and consulates, the American people show their support for diversity and the human rights of LGBTI individuals.
The coloured lights will remain at the Consulate till June-end.
In addition to the lighting at the US Consulate in Mumbai, the US Embassy in New Delhi and other US Consulates in India also are recognising 'Pride Month' through various displays and activities.
