UAE court sentences Muslim Brotherhood suspects

Dubai, June 14 (IANS) A Federal Supreme State Security Court in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday issued jail sentences for 19 members of the Yemeni Muslim Brotherhood.

The UAE government has banned the Muslim Brotherhood party and designated it a terrorist organisation, Xinhua reported.

The 19 suspects include five Emirati nationals and 14 Yemenis. They are accused of trying to overthrow the UAE government and joining the Muslim Brotherhood.

 

Four of the suspects were sentenced to three years in jail followed by deportation, while fourteen others were given six-month jail time. The rest one was acquitted of all charges.
