Delhi assembly gets notice on Sharma’s plea

New Delhi, June 11 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Saturday issued notice to the Delhi assembly on a plea of BJP MLA O.P. Sharma, who has been suspended for two sessions for passing derogatory remarks against AAP MLA Alka Lamba.

Sharma and the Aam Aadmi Party's Lamba could not reach a settlement in the court after it asked both to amicably resolve the issue.

Justice Manmohan Singh posted the matter for July 28.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader had moved the high court to challenge a Delhi assembly resolution suspending him for two sessions.

Sharma could not attend the special Delhi assembly session on June 9 and 10.

Justice Singh had spoken to Sharma and Lamba separately in his chamber on June 9 for about two hours but Sharma refused to tender a unilateral apology and asked the court to decide his plea against his suspension.

The Delhi assembly passed a resolution on March 31 against Sharma after an Ethics Committee recommended his expulsion for making derogatory remarks against Lamba.

Sharma said the Ethics Committee's decision was "wrong and biased" because all its nine members were AAP members.
