Friday evening rain, dust storm bring relief to Delhi

New Delhi, June 10 (IANS) A sudden change in weather brought respite from the scorching heat in the national capital on Friday evening as light rain accompanied by gusts of dust-laden wind blew across the city.

"There were reports of rainfall in some parts of the city in the evening. The scorching sun was blotted out by the clouds and the weather cooled around 5 p.m.," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The official termed the sudden weather change as a result of "local phenomena due to convection clouds (CC) developments". The city experienced rain followed by dust storm.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, normal for the season's average.

The Met Office had earlier in the day forecast a partly cloudy day with possibilities of rain.

The humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 54 per cent.

Thursday was hot and humid with the maximum temperature at 41.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, while the minimum was 30.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average.
