Lucknow, June 9 (IANS) The Samajwadi Party (SP) government in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday claimed that the state's economy has improved considerably on its watch in the past four years.
Improved infrastructure and a number of welfare schemes ensured not only rapid economic development but also increased per capita income, said a state government spokesman, citing statistics.
The figures for education, health, agri-produce, irrigation and agriculture-based activities show clearly that the rurual and urban economies in the state are much better placed than they were in 2012-13, he said.
"While the GDSP (gross domestic state product) of Uttar Pradesh was 3.9 per cent in 2012-13, it was 6.6 per cent in 2015-16. That's a gain of 2.7 per cent," he said.
The NSDP (net state domestic product) grew from 3.7 per cent in 2012-13 to 6.5 per cent in 2015-16.
The per capita income grew from Rs 35,358 in 2012-13 to Rs 48,584 in 2015-16, bearing out the impact of the state government's development projects on the economy, the spokesman said.
The enrollment ratio in senior basic schools grew from 57.17 in 2012 to 65.95 in 2015 while the drop-out rate came down from 49 per cent in 2012 to 39 per cent in 2015.
Bearing in mind the state's reliance on agriculture, the state government has worked to expand irrigation and sown area, he said.
"While the average produce per hectare in 2012 was 23.91 quintals, in the year 2015 the produce was 25.11 quintals."
The share of commercial crops in the total sown land increased by 258 per cent.
The state government had rolled out many development projects to boost the state's economy, including Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Samajwadi-Poorvanchal Expressway, Lucknow Metro's construction and dairy plants being established in Kanpur by Amul, he said.
