Ranchi, June 9 (IANS) The Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik has called for an economic blockade of the state on June 11 and 12 to protesting the domicile policy notified by the Raghubar Das government.
Party chief and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi has written a letter to all the political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, to support the 48-hour-long blockade.
JVM-P sources said letters have been handed over to state BJP President Tala Marandi, Sudesh Mahto of the All Jharkhand Students Union, Shibu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, K.D. Singh of the Communist Party of India, and Gopikant Bakshi of the Communist Party of India-Marxist.
Letters have also been sent to the officials of companies, chambers of commerce, truck owners' association, industrialists and social organisations, urging them to extend their cooperation in the economic blockade.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Communist Party of India have already announced their support on the issue.
JMM General Secretary Binod Pandey said his party would play an active role in the economic blockade. He said the blockade has been called against the domicile policy which tramples aspirations of the people of Jharkhand.
The support from the JMM is being viewed as a return of favour after the JVM-P agreed to support the candidature of Basant Soren in the Rajya Sabha polls.
The CPI said party workers would actively participate in the economic blockade.
