Guwahati, June 8 (IANS) The NIA Special Court at Guwahati on Wednesday convicted chief of Manipur-based outlawed organisation UNLF Raj Kumar Meghan and 17 others under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code and sentenced them for seven to ten years of imprisonment.
A statement issued by the National Investigation Agency said that while the United National Liberation Front chairman Meghan and Joy Singh were awarded ten years of imprisonment, the others were sent to seven to eight years of imprisonment.
The NIA had submitted the chargesheet against Meghan and 17 others in 2010 for various offences including criminal conspiracy of terrorists acts and waging war against the Government of India.
Besides Meghan, the 17 convicted include Th. Herojit Singh, Sougaijam Rakesh Singh, Oinam Somorjit Singh, Wayenbam Noren Singh, Naba Kumar Singh, Kh. Jeeten Singh, Sinam Gune Singh, Mutun Ibohal Singh, KM. Chingakham Bambem Chanu, Londhoni Devi, Moniton Singha, Ningombam Dilip Singh, M. Joy Singh, N. Bomi Singh, Y. Brajabidhu Singh and A. Ibomcha Singh.
