New Delhi, June 7 (IANS) Terming Indo-Japan ties a "special strategic relationship", Japan on Tuesday said it was working very hard to increase investments in India.
"Japan is trying to increase its investment in India. We are working very hard to achieve this goal," said Japan's ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu while giving a talk here on 'Challenges and Prospects of Japan's Diplomacy in context of India-Japan Relationship'.
The ambassador said Japan supports the Narendra Modi government's 'Make in India' initiative and hoped that the business environment will improve further in the country.
Hiramatsu said Japan also supports India's bid to become a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
India on Monday secured Switzerland's support for its NSG membership bid following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann in Geneva.
Hiramatsu, who assumed charge as ambassador to India in November last year, said India and Japan share a "special strategic relationship" which is also "action-oriented".
Talking about areas of cooperation in which the two countries could help each other, he said defence and technology were some of the areas where Japan would like to help India.
"Japan is in the process of identifying what (defence) technology could be transferred to India.
"This would strengthen our security cooperation," he said, adding that both countries needed partners as the situation was "complicated" in Asia.
The two countries would have to cooperate with each other in order to have peaceful oceans, the ambassador said.
"India and Japan have been discussing issues related to maritime security" which was very important to ensuring peace on the seas, Hiramatsu said.
He also hoped that while being assertive in the region, China would respect international law.
